Fear of the dentist is common. Many patients find it hard to overcome a negative experience in the past, scary stories about painful appointments, discomfort laying still, or having someone in their personal space. If you’re in the Downtown Los Angeles area and are looking for a dentist who cares not only about the health of your mouth, but your overall comfort and wellbeing, look no further than Dr. Don Mungcal of Downtown Dental.
Dr. Mungcal and his team are committed to treating you with gentle care, calming your fears, and ensuring that you’re relaxed during your entire appointment. If your dental anxiety is more than just nerves, the team at Downtown Dental can help you find a solution. While we always use nerve-blocking anesthesia when necessary, many patients find that sedation helps take the edge of their fears.
Downtown Dental offers various forms of sedation dentistry. By talking with Dr. Mungcal, he can help you decide which one is best for you.
– Nitrous oxide – Often referred to as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is the mildest version of sedation. You will still be completely awake, aware of your surroundings, and able to speak. You will simply be very relaxed.
– Oral sedation – With oral sedation, you will become more relaxed than with the nitrous oxide, perhaps even a bit groggy. You’ll still be awake and able to respond to commands or answer questions, but your fears will eased.
– IV sedation – The response to IV sedation is similar to oral sedation, however, with IV sedation, Dr. Mungcal can monitor your response and adjust the anesthesia as the appointment progresses. Again, you will be groggy but awake. You may not even remember the appointment.
– General anesthesia – With general anesthesia you will be asleep and you will have no recollection of the appointment. This is the same potency of anesthesia that physicians use during surgery.
