Introducing Chow pinhole gum rejuvenations, pinhole surgical technique. Before, conventional gum grafting required cutting tissue from the roof of the mouth. The gum is then cut over the area of the recession and lifted. The tissue from the palate is placed over the recessions. Once complete sutures hold the graft in place during healing. Now with the new revolutionary Chau pinhole gum rejuvenation, gum recession is corrected without cutting or stitches. This new process begins the tiny entry point that is made in the gum. Then a special dental instrument is placed through the pinhole to free the gums with gentle movements. Once free, the gums are guided down into a healthy position. When the recessed gums are corrected, tiny collagen strips are placed inside to help stabilise the gums. Incredibly the pinhole heals rather quickly and often overnight. When complete the receding gums are corrected with a minimally invasive treatment that is quick easy and instantly pleasing.

Do your teeth look longer than they used to? Are you experiencing sensitivity? Your gums may be receding. As gums pull back, they expose some of the tooth’s root. Bacteria builds up in the gap between enamel and soft tissue, leading to tooth decay at the gum line. Dr. Don Mungcal is trained and certified in the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique. This innovative pinhole gum rejuvenation method restores gum contours. It gives Los Angeles patients a minimally invasive alternative to the discomfort and recovery time of traditional gum grafting.

Traditional gum grafting

Conventional gum grafting involves removing tissue from the roof of the mouth and suturing the incision. Gums in the area of recession are cut and lifted. The graft is inserted underneath, then stitched into place. The procedure takes at least an hour, and the two surgical sites require about three weeks of healing time.

Benefits of the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique

The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique requires only a small access hole made by a needle. Using a specially designed instrument, Dr. Mungcal loosens gum tissue and gently shifts it to cover the area of recession.

Patients love this technique, because:

  • There is no cutting, sutures, or open wounds, and very little tissue trauma.
  • Post-procedure discomfort, swelling, and bleeding is minimal.
  • Healing is fast. The hole usually closes in a day. Tiny collagen strips are inserted to stabilize gum tissue and speed healing.
  • Cosmetic improvement is immediate.
  • Results are long lasting with good oral hygiene.

Dr. John Chao, who pioneered the procedure, has been performing the Pinhole Surgical Technique since 2006, with excellent outcomes and patient satisfaction. Dr. Mungcal is one of only a few dentists in the Los Angeles area to offer this breakthrough pinhole gum rejuvenation alternative to gum grafting. Oral Cancer Screening Video

Oral Cancer Screening Video
Every patient at Downtown Dental undergoes a thorough check for oral cancer and other dental health issues. This video shows how it’s done.
Here at downtown Dental, we take oral health and cancer screenings very serious. This month is November and it’s the month of oral health cancer awareness and screenings. Every patient we examined thoroughly, we look and we check their lips, tongue and we check for any abnormalities or bumps. At home you should also check to make sure that everything looks okayLeava is going to demonstrate what in oral health cancer screening is and what we examine. So, we first start off by checking all the lips. We make sure that the lips look healthy and that we palpate them, which is touching them and making sure that there’s nothing anormal. Then we go into the mucosa and check the cheeks. We’re going to look and check the hard palate as well as the soft palate. This might tickle a little. We checked the posterior of the tongue. Do you, Viola, go ahead and say, aaaaaa. We check the lateral sides of the tongue. Go ahead and sit your tongue showed up great. And we also check the floor of the mouth. Get the tongue to the roof of your mouth. Good all clear. Oral cancer is especially important to check the patients who are smokers, alcohol drinkers and we thank you for watching the video.
