Can teeth cleaning in Los Angeles harm the enamel?

Teeth Cleaning in Los Angeles Area

At Downtown Dental in Los Angeles, our team is here to assist individuals with a wide range of general, cosmetic, and restorative dentistry procedures. Dr. Don Mungcal and his staff are dedicated to helping patients in their community achieve better oral health and wellness. This starts with routine teeth cleanings.

What are teeth cleanings?

Professional teeth cleanings are performed to maintain the health of the smile. These teeth cleanings not only remove food particles from the teeth and gums, but they can remove bacteria, plaque, and tartar from all the surfaces of the teeth. When done regularly, patients can enjoy beautiful, brilliant, and healthy-looking smiles.

How are teeth cleanings performed?

Teeth cleanings are performed by our dental hygienists who will rinse the teeth. The dental hygienist then applies professional-strength gels to the teeth and gums and uses a specialized device to clean the teeth. Our team also provides flossing for our patients to remove food particles that may be stuck in between the teeth in the tight crevices. Once this has been done, the teeth are polished and ready for the dentist to inspect.

What else is done during a routine visit to the dentist?

Teeth cleaning is just one aspect of a recall appointment with Dr. Don Mungcal. Additionally, patients may undergo an evaluation with our team to look for signs of periodontal disease or tooth decay. Patients often have x-rays done on a regular basis to evaluate the health of the bone and to look for areas of decay that may be present well beneath the surface. This is a terrific way to diagnose issues that may not be seen with the naked eye during evaluations. When the dentist evaluates the smile, he will also look for signs of oral cancer or any other condition that can negatively impact one’s oral health and wellness.

Who is a candidate for teeth cleanings?

Everyone can benefit from teeth cleanings. They should be done regularly as recommended by our dental hygienists to improve and maintain oral health and wellness over the long-term. Teeth cleaning is just one aspect of preventative

dental care for patients to consider when they are interested in addressing oral health concerns.

When should teeth cleanings be performed? Our team at Downtown Dental encourages patients to have their teeth cleaned each time they visit, at least during their recall appointments with Dr. Don Mungcal. This ensures proactive care of the teeth and gums as well as the ability for any problems to be diagnosed early enough for effective intervention. If patients come into our practice for any other concerns, we may suggest a dental cleaning if it appears to be necessary.

Is teeth cleaning expensive?

Not at all! In fact, most of our patients have their teeth cleaning covered by their dental insurance, either in part or full, which makes it extremely attainable for many of our patients.

Absolutely not. Teeth cleaning is done to achieve better oral health and does not have a negative impact on the surfaces of the teeth. Success Stories

I actually owe a debt to Downtown Dental because they caught my oral cancer. I went to them because I had a bump on my tongue and thankfully they ordered a biopsy immediately (same day). The staff has been wonderful to me (even sending me a get well card during my cancer treatment). They do great work - the crowns are made in the office to save you time - and they are very upfront on pricing. You know exactly what you will pay. They are also very flexible on appointments. And they validate parking! They also have taken COVID precautions very seriously. Very professional and well-organized. Highly recommend them.
The staff here on its own deserves the five stars. Everyone is so friendly and take there time to get to know you as a patient. There very easy to work with on what’s best for you in the long run with insurance and dental care. On top of them making you feel comfortable, you can tell that they actually care about you and your dental health. The parking is also super easy and they validate so you don’t have to pay. I’d highly recommend coming here!

Oral Cancer Screening Video

Oral Cancer Screening Video
Every patient at Downtown Dental undergoes a thorough check for oral cancer and other dental health issues. This video shows how it’s done. Transcript
Here at downtown Dental, we take oral health and cancer screenings very serious. This month is November and it's the month of oral health cancer awareness and screenings. Every patient we examined thoroughly, we look and we check their lips, tongue and we check for any abnormalities or bumps. At home you should also check to make sure that everything looks okayLeava is going to demonstrate what in oral health cancer screening is and what we examine. So, we first start off by checking all the lips. We make sure that the lips look healthy and that we palpate them, which is touching them and making sure that there's nothing anormal. Then we go into the mucosa and check the cheeks. We're going to look and check the hard palate as well as the soft palate. This might tickle a little. We checked the posterior of the tongue. Do you, Viola, go ahead and say, aaaaaa. We check the lateral sides of the tongue. Go ahead and sit your tongue showed up great. And we also check the floor of the mouth. Get the tongue to the roof of your mouth. Good all clear. Oral cancer is especially important to check the patients who are smokers, alcohol drinkers and we thank you for watching the video.
