Sports Mouth Guard

Sports Mouth Guard

In an athlete’s equipment bag, you’ll find everything from cleats and gloves to uniforms and balls. However, there’s one vital item that anyone involved in contact sports should never be without—a personalized sports mouthguard. At Downtown Dental in Los Angeles, CA, we stand by our local athletes, providing custom-made mouthguards designed to safeguard teeth and gums from potential damage.

How Can I Prevent Dental Damage with a Customized Sports Mouth Guard?

Injuries can occur unexpectedly on the field, rink, or court, whether from collisions with other players, blows to the face, or falls. While these incidents are never planned, they do happen, making it essential to protect your mouth to avoid injury.

If you’re committed to giving your all in your sport without concerns about potential harm, prioritizing adequate protection is crucial. This starts with safeguarding your teeth using a sports mouthguard. This vital piece of safety equipment can help prevent issues such as:

  • Knocked-out teeth
  • Broken teeth
  • Dislodged teeth
  • Broken braces
  • Damaged dental work
  • Chipped teeth
  • Bleeding soft tissues

Even if you wear a helmet as part of your uniform, it may not fully protect your mouth from potential disasters. In sports where helmets aren’t worn at all, the risk of damage to your teeth, gums, and jaw is even greater. That’s why a simple appliance can make all the difference between disaster and safety.

What Are the Benefits of a Sports Mouth Guard?

Football mouthguards, hockey mouthguards, and boxing mouthguards are essential. While some low-contact and no-contact sports may not mandate a sports bite guard, many lacrosse, soccer, and basketball players still recognize its value. They wear it diligently to protect themselves from dental damage during every practice and game. Regardless of the sport you play, wearing a customized sports mouthguard enhances safety. Its benefits include:

  • Comfort: Sports mouthguards are typically worn on the upper teeth alone, making them easy to slip on and off while staying securely in place when needed. Designed specifically for your teeth, they ensure a comfortable fit during play.
  • Customization: Your Los Angeles dentist will tailor the sports guard to your unique needs, considering factors such as the sport you play and whether you wear orthodontics. This personalized approach prioritizes dental safety and ensures optimal protection.
  • Durability: Made from reinforced materials, sports mouthguards are resistant to tears and breaks, ensuring longevity even during intense play. This durability is essential for serious athletes who require reliable gear.
  • Complete protection: Unlike over-the-counter mouthguards, customized sports mouthguards provide total coverage and are designed to absorb shock effectively. Their slim profile minimizes bulkiness and discomfort while offering full protection, allowing you to play with confidence.

Can I Play Hard While Protecting My Teeth and Gums?

Wearing a bite guard offers comprehensive protection for your entire mouth. It not only shields your teeth but also safeguards all the soft tissues and other oral structures, including your tongue, gums, jaw, bite, and tooth roots. Any impact to the mouth can result in damage, including fractures, tears, and discomfort. Regardless of age or skill level—whether you’re a child, teenager, or adult athlete, amateur or professional—ensuring the safety of yourself and your mouth should be your top priority.

Steer clear of uncomfortable over-the-counter sports mouthguards by collaborating with the professionals at Downtown Dental in Los Angeles. Book a consultation to explore the ideal bite guard tailored to both your oral health needs and the requirements of your sport. Boost your game performance by playing with confidence, knowing that your teeth and mouth are properly safeguarded. Call us at 213-863-9464.

Oral Cancer Screening Video

Oral Cancer Screening Video
Every patient at Downtown Dental undergoes a thorough check for oral cancer and other dental health issues. This video shows how it’s done.
Here at downtown Dental, we take oral health and cancer screenings very serious. This month is November and it’s the month of oral health cancer awareness and screenings. Every patient we examined thoroughly, we look and we check their lips, tongue and we check for any abnormalities or bumps. At home you should also check to make sure that everything looks okayLeava is going to demonstrate what in oral health cancer screening is and what we examine. So, we first start off by checking all the lips. We make sure that the lips look healthy and that we palpate them, which is touching them and making sure that there’s nothing anormal. Then we go into the mucosa and check the cheeks. We’re going to look and check the hard palate as well as the soft palate. This might tickle a little. We checked the posterior of the tongue. Do you, Viola, go ahead and say, aaaaaa. We check the lateral sides of the tongue. Go ahead and sit your tongue showed up great. And we also check the floor of the mouth. Get the tongue to the roof of your mouth. Good all clear. Oral cancer is especially important to check the patients who are smokers, alcohol drinkers and we thank you for watching the video.
