No one wants to lose a tooth. Unfortunately, it is not always avoidable. Injuries, decay, and untreated gum disease are the most common reasons for adult tooth loss. That gap in your smile can be embarrassing and uncomfortable. Don’t worry – we have a beautiful, permanent solution!
The root of the matter
Dental implants have been called the next best thing to natural teeth. However, they don’t technically replace teeth; they replace the roots. Crowns, bridges, or dentures can be placed atop these tiny titanium cylinders. No other restorative option replaces the root. This has many benefits:
- Your existing teeth do not need to be altered in any way.
- Restorations do not slip, wobble, or fall out.
- Replacement teeth are fixed at the perfect angle, so they look natural.
- Implants prevent jawbone deterioration, which begins when teeth are lost.
Your options
We offer two types of implants, full-sized and mini. The best choice depends on several factors, including how many teeth are missing and how much bone loss has already occurred. When teeth have been missing for some time, there may not be enough bone density for full sized implants. The smaller variety naturally requires less bone mass to seat securely. X-ray images are used to determine how much bone you have.
Traditional, one-dimensional x-rays do not accurately reflect the height, width, and density of bone. That can lead to errors when choosing the style of implant, or the optimal location. Dr. Don Mungcal believes dentistry should be efficient, effective, and without error. Our office is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including CT scanning for three-dimensional x-rays. Using these images, your treatment can be designed with precision accuracy.
What to expect
In most cases, the entire process takes several months to complete. However, it will take very little of your time. The initial placement is a fast, comfortable, and highly predictable surgery. There is minimal soreness and swelling following the procedure.
You can wear an attractive and functional temporary restoration while your jawbone securely fuses to the implant. This process, known as osseointegration, usually takes three to six months. When it is complete, your beautiful, permanent restoration is added.
