It is easy to think of visiting the dentist as just a routine appointment, or something you must do when you have a toothache. Many people don’t fully understand the positive impact that advanced dental care can have on their physical health. At my Los Angeles practice, Downtown Dental, we use current technologies and treatment techniques that help our patients live better and longer.
The far-reaching effect of gum disease
Healthy gums are an important ally in maintaining a healthy body. Gums serve as a barrier to keep infection and inflammation from invading other organs. When gums become unhealthy, oral bacteria that triggers gum disease also gets into the bloodstream. The resulting systemic inflammation can have devastating effects, including:
Periodontal treatment at the speed of light
A laser is simply a device that focuses a specific wavelength of energy from light. The applications of laser technology continue to evolve, including dentistry. We use Waterlase equipment to treat gum disease effectively, without the drawbacks of conventional periodontal therapies.
Waterlase is a virtually painless and more natural way of treating gum disease. I use it to remove diseased gum tissue, with little or no bleeding and minimal post-operative swelling. By eliminating the source of infection, risk of pathogens infiltrating the body dramatically decreases. We often combine laser therapy with scaling and root planing and antibiotics to get gum disease under control. Then, continued use of Perio Protect® helps to maintain healthy bacterial counts in the mouth.
I enjoy providing advanced dental care to patients in the Los Angeles area, because I know that a healthy mouth can influence their lives in so many good ways. I also know that gum disease is a prevalent problem which is easy to ignore. Please don’t! Call me at 213-863-9464 to schedule an appointment.
