"I have been going to Dr. Mungcal for many years now. Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience with another dentist and a friend recommended Dr. Mungcal. When I met with him, I explained the bad experience I had and how I was terrified of going to the dentist and he made me very comfortable. I do not even like having my teeth cleaned because I have found past dentists/hygienists to be clumsy and he is not, he is very gentle. I've had problems for over 10 years with TMJ - I grind & clench my teeth. Even though I wear a guard it didn't help the TMJ, just saved my teeth from wear. But Dr. Mungcal recommended a TMJ mouthgard. I've been using it for 2 years now and no longer have any problems with TMJ!

I found Downtown Dental through 1(800) dentist. I was so glad I did. I've had my fair share of run ins with bad dentists: poor skills, high prices, and attempts to force services that weren't necessary just so they could make that cheddar.

Dr. Mungcal is awesome. It was the first time I've had digital records of my teeth. My hygienist, Monica, is funny, beautiful, and wicked when it comes to teeth! She explained things very well, and helped me get my mouth back in shape.

I'm really happy with their office.

Parking is a very narrow driveway just passed Disney Concert Hall. They validate, so no worries about that crazy uptown parking."

"Is it possible to actually enjoy going to the dentist? Well if Dr. Don is your dentist, the answer is YES! My fears have been put to rest and my mouth has been healed. Super friendly office. Never a wait, good magazines, TV while you get your teeth cleaned and.... wait for it....... wait for it...... spa water! Thank you Dr. Don. Every time I see that 1-800 dentist commercial, I am so stoked that I am "handled"!

My DH has been coming to Dr. Don for like 10 years, probably more..... scary! His teeth are amazing! I've been going for 2 years, since we moved downtown. Dr. Don won't propose work that isn't necessary or "nickle & dime" you. Very convenient building next to the Walt Disney Concert Hall and across the street from MOCA, I've even pulled my big old cady into the lot and had no problem parking it. FREE with validation, but I take the Dash bus now. Koo Koo Roo downstairs for lunch on your way out. Friendly security guard greets you as you enter the building. Go See Dr. Don! I am!

Tuesday's cleaning marked exactly one week before my 4 year Downtown Dental anniversary, how do I remember the exact day I first visited DD? It was my birthday!! What a way to celebrate, right? As it turns out, I'd spend every birthday here and not fret (too much!). DD takes care without making you feel anxious. It does help when you actually take the Dr's. advice and follow the regimen, the positive results are worth the extra work! I've always been proud of my smile, but now I smile even bigger! Thank you again.

Oh, and the parking attendant is helpful with finding me BIKE parking! And the Koo Koo Roo space is now empty and the Pasta Gina space is a new (another) Subway."

"This office is nice and clean, and they validate parking. The staff is super friendly, and they always call you for updates if you need any. I'm basing my rating on the friendliness of the staff.

I needed a new retainer, and they made one for me for around $350, and it took two days. I don't have insurance, and I found that to be a reasonable price.

This place is very pleasant, and you get what you pay for, as I don't find it cheaper than anyone else. It's just a good place to go at a regular rate."

"I've been a patient for a few years now and I will trust no one else except for Dr. Mungcal and his staff for all my dental care. Everyone from the office is super friendly and always welcoming with a smile. It is a positive experience every time I visit! Teeth cleaning sessions are usually 30 mins minimum so they are super thorough even with the most basic procedure. There are TV monitors on the ceiling for the patients to watch while work is being done. Can we say attention to detail? Yes! You definitely feel like you're a valued customer.

The office is located at the corner of Grand Ave. and 3rd Street (in the pink Promenade Towers, 2nd Floor). The entrance to the covered parking area is right off of Grand Ave. and it is validated for as long as your stay."

"Located in the heart of downtown right next to the concert hall, some people might be detoured from this place based off downtown traffic frustration but not I NOR should you! I've lived in Pasadena and in the Marina Del Rey area but I've been coming here since I was a kid and have been a patient of Dr. Mungcal's for nearly 20 years. There isn't much or anything at all that I can really complain about and everyone there is extremely helpful. The equipment is all very state of the art and the office is extremely well kept. I've heard various horror stories through the years of patients and their dentists but I can't really say I've ever had one here.

I've probably had just about every dental procedure done here and have nothing to complain about for any of them - from wisdom teeth extractions, a TMJ night guard, and treatment for some gum disease I've always been treated great and never once were any of my questions discarded.

In fact I once called in to talk about gum disease after the hygienist told me my gums were bleeding and I had some bad tartar build up... (a result of me not being consistent with the check-ups or flossing. word to the wise... FLOSS KIDS) The staff member that picked up heard out every one of my concerns and sat there patiently with me while I went through all my concerns and the information I found off Google. She not only educated me on the entire topic but helped me feel at ease about the entire procedure I'd go through. Now its nearly a year later and my gums are getting back to absolute tip top shape.

I HIGGGHLY recommend this practice!"

"It is very rare to find a dentist that listens to what the patient thinks are issues. Between the Doctor and I we were able to put together a reconstruction plan that helped me regain the confidence in my smile. Been under his treatment for sleep apnea as well. Didn't realize how much better my life would be its the right mouth guard (old dentist treated only one problem the grinding) that treated multiple problems (apnea and grinding) that my jaw wouldn't be sore in the morning nor would I wake with headaches. "I've been going to Dr. Mungcal for over 4 years and he's always provided great service. And now he's more high tech with the use of computer imaging to see X-rays within seconds of taking pictures.

I walked from the District office to the dental office--a quick 10 minute walk. There was a brief wait to get the office ready for their first patient, and soon enough I was sitting on a comfortable chair facing the Omni Hotel Downtown. But to my amazement there was a 21 inch computer screen in front of me with all sorts of images. The technician explained the new process of taking X-rays, and the images quickly appear on the screen for both the doctor and patient to see. AWESOME! Before, only the doctor saw the negatives, and sometimes I couldn't tell what they were. On the computer screen the images were so clear and they came up so quickly.

The quarterly teeth cleaning went very quickly and painlessly: scraping, buzzing of the drill and slurping of the what-you-ma-call-it. Then there was the fluoride application--yummy--it tastes good. Any pain? No pain. That's because I brush and floss regularly, just like Dr. Mungcal ordered.

Forty minutes later I was done and ready to go back to work for an important morning meeting. Then at the counter with the receptionist to schedule my August return, I was asked about the $460 balance. Excuse me? I have insurance and nearly everything is covered. There was a long pregnant pause, meanwhile I was checking my watch to make sure I had enough time to walk back to the office. Then moments later: OK, is September so-and-so OK? Yep!

That was it. There was no explanation, but there better be no surprise when I get my statement.

"It is very rare to find a dentist that listens to what the patient "OK, Here it goes... I have an extreme phobia of dentists. Don't know why, always have. After 20 some odd years of avoiding the dentist, my teeth have suffered. I found this place after researching for a dentist. He was voted best of downtown. So i decided to give him a try.

Now seriously, I suffer panic attacks when I go to the dentists. He was so amazing. His staff was awesome. I love the girls at the desk.

As for my teeth. I was in for a major over haul. Not surprising to me...considering I haven't seen a dentist in years. The x-ray process is easy...using digital x-ray process. I knew I was in for major work, and the x-rays proved it. I started my "overhaul" in November of 2008. And as of June 2009, I am complete. I am now whitening my teeth for the perfect smile. I can't say it was easy. I suffered panic attacks the whole time. But that was not due to them, it was due to my own phobias. I have to say that everyone at the offce was excellent. Dr. Mungcal is amazing. I, as a patient, do not numb (uh, is that the right spelling? LOL) And he was so gentle and caring through my entire process. I wish I could upload a pic of what my teeth looked like when I first visited and a pic of what they now look like. I am amazed at the wonderful achievements. Seriously folks. I had to go through multiple extractions, root canals, and bridges being put in. But compared to the Beverly Hills dentist I was seeing, it was far less work than what they wanted to do...and far less extractions. Ultimately, I highly recommend this place. " I have been to many different dentists and this place, by far exceeds all my previous experiences. Starting from the minute you walk in, they treat you like, um family, as they say! Very nice and attentive to every concern.

They are very clear about explaining what is happening as well as very patient and understanding when you have to make a decision. In fact, I don't think I have been this educated before about brushing, flossing, and generally how our gums and teeth really work in my 30+ years!

Because of this experience recently, I have actually made huge improvements in my brushing pattens and have made other corrections with other habits that I have had, but this time doing it, I actually understand AND am enthusiastic about better results! That's what it's all about, right???

Also, if you don't have dental insurance like me, they have payment plans and discounts that make it more bearable."

"I went to Downtown Dental recently for my first dental visit in a few years after moving (I know) and found that it's a short walk from the Historic Core to the Financial District, on Grand Ave, above the 3rd Street tunnel. If you're a downtowner, you'll find that we're lucky to have a dentist worth traveling for just a short walk away.

Dr. Mongcal's staff put me at ease the moment I walked through the waiting room door -- everyone is friendly, warm, and knowledgeable. I get totally anxious at the dentist and the staff were all understanding, professional, and reassuring.

The office itself is modern, comfortable, and technologically advanced to the point that it feels like stepping into the future.

You can fill-out your patient intake information ahead of time and bring it to the office so that you can get in and out quickly. There's a monitor on a swinging arm that the staff uses to guide you through the whole process and the office uses software to track your visits, x-rays, and dental photos. If you have x-rays done, each x-ray will appear on the screen as it's taken. Not only is it neat, it useful when Dr. Mungcal goes over the results with you. If you have a cavity, you can zoom in and see the cavity. Though this was my first visit, I can see how the software would be useful to see how your dental health progresses after each visit.

The office is also full service dental office -- they offer Invisalign, among other things -- and the prices seem reasonable, particularly for the quality you get.

This was, hands-down, the best experience I've had with a dentist and the most thorough exam I've ever had. I highly recommend Dr. Mungcal and his staff."

"Dr. Mungcal is a very clever man. That goes without saying as he is a Doctor, an award winning one at that, but that's not why I think he is clever. Nor is it because he works at a fantastic location within the Downtown Los Angeles area overlooking MOMA and with views of the Disney Concert Hall. That is true, but that's not it. Is it because he has clearly invested in the latest technology eg digital X-rays, text message appointment reminders and lots of other shiny things? No, but again, that is true. It could be because he calmly and methodically explains what dental work you will need and why you need it. True. He does do that. But no, the reason I think Dr. Mungcal is a clever man is because of the team of staff he has employed. They are fantastic compliment to his ability and well deserved awards. Every member of his team is individually incredible and collectively outstanding. From the second you walk through the door you are welcomed with the warmest smile from the lovely Lisa. A quick witted woman with a very calming presence. Monica and Maribel, in the front office, also greet you with genuinely friendly hellos, and since Monica sorts out your insurance, I advise you smile back. Roxy is the next person you'll see. Always smiling, always laughing and a master at X-rays. If you are having your teeth cleaned you will see April. After one visit with this girl you will feel like you have a new set of teeth. Incredible. And she has a great sense of humor which really helps, too. Kristin is another fantastic lady (can you see the pattern here?); she works fast and painlessly and explains everything she is doing and everything you need to do once you leave. Listen to this woman, she knows what she is talking about.

Put simply this is the best dentist practice I have ever been to and you will not be disappointed after you go. My fear of dentists, instilled as child, have all gone and now I genuinely enjoy my visits thanks to Dr. Mungcal. After all, he is a very clever man."
